Ellen is an illustrator and qualified medical artist. She combines her scientific background with a colourful, bold and playful style to illustrate the life sciences.
After completing a BA in Fine Art, she studied and then worked in science and medical research, receiving a PhD from King’s College London in 2015. Recently, she completed post-graduate training in Medical Illustration, and became a professional member of the Medical Artists’ Association (MAA).
Her interdisciplinary background is reflected in her creative process. Inspired by biology and the natural world, her work is fact-based, meticulously researched, and scientifically accurate if needs be. However, she loves exploring how to illustrate these subjects in nontraditional, inventive, and sometimes humorous ways.
Ellen grew up surrounded by the rolling hills of the Peak District, and now lives and works by the sea in Hastings, on the south coast of England.
